i like to keep things secret

really this is just a learning project. i was a little too young to create a personal website when that was still a thing. just as I was learning about it, the world switched over to social media and web 2.0 patterns. it's nice to be able to come back and learn again. it is a breath of fresh air to have an online space to express myself, rather than conforming to commercialized online spaces that mine your attention for money. i want to be part of a non-corporate internet.

there are many ways to do this. a personal site like neocities offers. a simple status microblog. a single page website. a simple blog like bear blog. and in terms of content consumption, using rss readers to gather content is a powerful thing. you can bring the content to you instead of getting lost in algorithmic feeds optimised to keep you there. it's funny how the content isn't as engaging when it's taken outside of its native environment in this way.

rediscovering the world of blogging is actually really satisfying. i remember the era of blogging and it's altogether slower and less frenetic than the modern internet. compared to scrolling modern feeds, reading a long form blog post feels like a meditative exercise in cultivating attention and focus. it's also more personal. it just seems like a healthier way to engage online.

i don't know what i want this site to be yet. it's an experiment to see how i can craft expression in a space like this. i like to write - so i should figure out some sort of blog posting system, so that i'm not just throwing text into P tags like this lol. but it works for the moment.

i might also post some of my favorite recipes. modern SEO-optimized recipe websites are possibly my least favorite genre of website. what are we even doing? there isn't much value added with all the extra content that enables to it to rank on google. i don't blame the creators, it's the fault of google for incentivizing bad website design. in any case - i want to post the kinds of recipes i wish I could easily find - just the instructions with no filler.

i also have a dog. she'll probably get her own section :P
